The Eye House = ART FOR THE PUBLIC REALM

Initially conceived for a very small square land, the Eye House intends to create a sense of spaciousness and expansion, using the diagonal and upward movement of its internal architecture, hiding every domestic functions under a folding floor, and using materials reflecting the light and sky.
While the space encapsulates and isolates from the weather, there is a visual communion with the urban environment outdoor and the sky. And from the outside, people can feel the presence; by night there are great light effects and perceived activity. This piece is very alive.
Inspiration ~ This creation is in continuity with my Transversal period, when I was simply working with specific sites such as ports, a photographer and my own body, without any added architecture but the architecture of the site itself. Inverted pyramids and trapezial volumes can be seen in ports, but in this project the overall volume has a more abstract presence.
I started to experiment with representation of lateral gravity for my architect diploma, using oblique surfaces in real sites and video. When you are inside the Eye House, the gravity is visually impeded, thanks to the upward movement and the windows geometry imposing its own dynamic to the space.
Olympic crystal ~ The Eye House appears as a big crystal contrasting with its mineral urban environment, both mutually enhanced and energised . The ascending movement of the eye window extended outside by a brise-soleil symbolises uplifting spirits,
a link between sky and earth and can unconsciously be associated with the wavy movement of the Olympic flame, as 2012 approaches.
