The Eye house is both an ARCHITECTURAL CREATION DESIGNED TO SIT IN CONTEXT and a TRANSCONTEXTUAL OBJECT working in its own right. What does it mean?

  • From the outset the Eye house was designed to blend into its particular situation - a large space between two imposing parallel blocks filled with garages, cars and air conditioning units.
A disused space at one end of the garages forms the anchor from which the project emerges.
After trying different typologies the polyhedral shape was selected, belonging to the same family of the cuboid buildings that surround it, but at the same time clearly distinctive from them. The windows' vocable was adopted in sympathy with the windows of the cars parked beneath.
Sitting at a slight angle to its axis creates a feeling of movement and interaction with the street in this otherwise parallel and static space.

  • It's also a creation which works in the context of other sites - an autonomous and self-balanced structure that could happily be replicated in other locations.
These other potential locations will be considered in terms of their historical, social and ecological characters together with the spatial interaction produced between this building and the structure of the chosen location.
